In order to reduce water from spreading further around on the ceiling, it is the wisest way to make a hole in the centre of where the water is leaking to prevent from further damages and also more areas of leakages.

Step 1. Make sure that the ground is safe to place a ladder.  If you don't have a ladder, then simply ask for assistance by contacting us for quick assistance.

Step 2. Find a tool that you can use to push and carve into wet plaster or ceiling tiles.  Then Place the tool into the middle of the area where it is leaking and ensure that you make a hole about 10mm in diameter.  This will allow the water not to spread.

Step 3.  Place a bin or something that will hold of the amount of water that is seeping threw. Note that you will need to attend to removing water from the bin so it is good to have a spare bin to replace the full bin.

How to direct water in one spot rather than spreading

When the room has been cleaned it is important that the carpet needs to dry quickly.  The reason for this is that water can create

  • Mold can start to grow immediately and become a health risk

  • Ruin the seams of the carpet and

  • Hazardous falls may occur while wet

  • Shrinkage may occur in the future or slowly

  • Odour in the carpet from dust and other substance that can be bad for health subjecting in removing the carpet

Hiring Portable fans and placing them in the room

First turn off all the light in the room and wall power points. Most leakages either leak through light fittings or flow on the wall.  As water needs to find a way out it will just do that.

Find a few large buckets or bin depending on the amount of water that is entering.

Also, place rags into the bucket or bin so it does not splash causing water to jump up and wet around the area.

ROOF LEAK DO'S AND DON'TS

Feeling stressed by drips occurring in your office or factory?

It's important that you follow the do's and don’ts of roof leaks:

Do's:

  • Move any electrical appliances well away from the area where it is leaking.

  • Water can spread out over a large area, on the ceiling, you can make a small hole (10mm) round with a knife or bottle opener by pushing into the gyprock and twisting it around; not too big' just to allow the water to release so it dose not spread.

  • If you are able to safely find a ladder and enter the cavity (above the ceiling) space and place a catching tray under a leak.  This will help to reduce water entering into the room

  • You can push a ceiling tile away to allow the water to release.  make sure that you have a bucket or even the office or warehouse bin to catch the water.

Dont's:

  • If you feel that you are unable to walk on a roof, do not attempt to put yourself in harm! If you go up on the roof place the ladder on the side or back of the building and tie the ladder to somewhere safe so it does not fall.

  • The same goes with inside the cavity of the building.  Some offices have unstable ceilings.
